Man, I’m awful at this sporadic posting thing.

I have such an “all or nothing” personality and I really need to work on that. When I’m excited about something I’m all in. Then something happens and I fail and it is SO hard for me to get back on the ball. Which is actually really funny because in many other aspects of my life, I’m hella flexible & love the change.

Exercise and blogging though? I need help. I’m too rigid and I end up suffering because of it.

No more.

I made it 94 consecutive days (minus one) of yoga. Mainly The Ultimate Yogi, but a few days just Suns or some random flow that I made up as I went along. I also subbed some of the hour practices for Travis’s Short and Sweets.

I lost my streak and am happy to report that aside from my weekend in Mexico, I’ve still been doing yoga (of some sort) most days and finished 108 “days of yoga”.

Now for the new commitment.

It’s almost my birthday. I’ll be 24 this year. I’ve decided that I’m going to make this year all about getting healthy and “fit”. I want to be more active than ever (which sadly, won’t take too much, I’ve been a sloth for yearsss). I want to keep up with the kids instead of just being tired and cranky.

So here’s what I propose for myself:

1. I’m going to do a local trail run challenge in October. I bought amazing trail running shoes yesterday and my 5yo and I are going to train for it. We’ve started the “couch to 5k” program, via the app, and are on week two.

Used a babyleg as an armband to hold my phone: best idea ever!

2. Yoga Warrior 365 with Rudy Mettia is releasing soon. I’m going to buy it and try it out. I’m going into it knowing that I will NOT be doing the hour long dvd EVERY day. But I’m going to use it on some sort of a schedule.

3. The Ultimate Yogi with Travis Eliot. I love Travis. I love the UY program. I’m not ready to give him/it up completely, so i’ll be working practice from UY into the YW program too.

**There is an AWESOME group of people I’ve met through the UY program on Facebook, who is also intending to do a collaboration of UY108 and YW365. They call it the “Ultimate Yogi Warrior”. So if I abbreviate UYW, that’s what I’m referring to.

4. Main Street Yoga. I’ve found that though I love my home practice, I absolutely NEED at least one class a week with my yogini clan at MSY. They revitalize me and keep me excited and help me on my journey.

I intend to continue my blog about life and my (mainly yoga) journey to fitness. Hopefully by this time next year, I’ll be in tip-top shape. 🙂

I also want to make use of my grama’s garden and get back on the juicing kick. I miss my spinach apple juice!

I’ve missed y’all, hope I’ve been missed too!

This morning has been crazy.

I woke up, snoozed the alarm like an idiot… and fell back asleep. That’s TEN MINUTES I didn’t have! I don’t give myself much time in the morning because all I do is pee, brush my teeth, put on shoes and grab my bag. Well, this morning I was out in record time because that alarm went off at 5:58am. My car clock read 6:00am when I got in (so it may have been like 6:01 according to my phone.

I didn’t even grab shoes this morning. Oops. Luckily I had flipflops in the car so I didn’t have to look like a crazy person when I got to town and ran into the studio barefoot. (Though, I’m sure it’s happened, considering we all want to be barefoot).

I got there. I was even on time. Then the practice was great. It was actually pretty similar to last nights short and sweet, but with a few other things thrown in there, and a few things subbed. It was an intense practice for the morning and I got a little more sweaty than I like since I have to go straight to work. Oh well.

I had a brief passing thought during the practice “I should cut my hair. It’s freaking hot.” But, I won’t. Then I’d cry. Though, I think this summer is going to be insanely hot with my long hair.

#Longhairdontcare? Sorta.

I’m sore today, especially through my side body. All those lateral angles in last night’s practice (and then this mornings practice) apparently got me. It feels good, I haven’t been this sore in a while. I think it’s because it was something “different”. It’s delicious.

Also, everyone that has a smartphone should download Voxer. It turns your phone into a walkie talkie. It’s pretty much the beezneez.

And with that, I should get back to work.

Enjoy this beautiful day! Namaste,

So, anyone with children knows… plans are a joke.

I’m surprised I’ve been able to work evening practices into my schedule as much as I have in the past month. Tonight, it was near impossible though.

My children hate going to sleep. Every single night I get the “can I stay up late?!” “But why not??” “Just one more story/song?” “I have to pee” “I need a drink” “I need my light on” “I need to change my pajamas” etc.

Tonight was worse than usual and my eyes were bugging me. I just wanted them to go to sleep nicely, after a story. The little devils wouldn’t get in the bathroom and brush their teeth though! Despite me standing in the hallway, tapping my toe, and humming the jeopardy countdown in my head… they would NOT do it. “I need my other toothbrush… it’s downstairs” “I don’t like that toothpaste” “We’re out of kid mouthwash, I’ll use yours—ahhhh, it’s too spicy, now I need a drink” zomg. Just brush your dang teeth and get in your bed!

After 45 minutes of them bumbling around they finally got in bed, in their chonies, and I had had it. It was past their bedtime. It was encroaching on my yoga time. I have morning yoga in the morning, brats! I need to be ASLEEP by 11 and I have to shower after yoga! 😦

Needless to say, I didn’t have time for balance tonight. So, I subbed. I did Travis Eliot’s Short & Sweet #2, and it was a great practice. It did feel rather “short” though. I apparently was thirsting for a long practice tonight. It hit all the right places though and at least I managed to get that in.

Sidenote— the scissor holds near the end are amazing. My core was on fire from those.

Now I’m off to bed so I can be on my mat at the studio bright and early. It feels like it’s been forever (a whole week!).

For all of you that are doing the UY program, we have to honor ourselves, our hectic lives, and all of the hindrances that come up along the way. We may not be able to get on our mat for the full amount of time that is necessary to complete a UY dvd, but every minute that we are on our mat counts, however long it is. Do what you can, when you can. It all counts on our way to being better yogis; on our way to being ultimate.

Last night I did yoga cardio. (I switch Sunday and Monday sometimes, since I go to class Monday morning and it’s usually a pretty good “flow” class and I need more of a “rest” day on Sunday. So, I stuck to that schedule even though we didn’t have class due to Memorial Day yesterday, and did Mountain Pose on Sunday and Cardio yesterday.

I haven’t done cardio in a while because I’ve been at the studio instead. I used to dread cardio. It’s probably the class (along with balance) that kills me the most.

I’m working on my upper body strength, but when I first started yoga in November 2011, I could barely stay in plank for more than 2 seconds and doing a chatturanga and floating into up-dog was something I only dreamed of. It was more a wobble-like-crazy-in-plank-for-a-second….DROP-to-your-belly… up-dog.

But last night was different.

Last night, not only did I make it through the entire series of 5… then the series of 10… BUT I made it through every single vinyasa in the class without collapsing on my chatturanga. My flow-through to updog wasn’t perfect every time, however there was NO plopping onto my stomach.

I couldn’t help but smile in every crescent pose past “sick at six”, especially on the left side. I was getting tired at 8, but at that point, I was so close I just set my mind to it “only two more”.

I felt incredible. I felt strong. I felt on my way to being ultimate.

Day 57

Then I went to bed and slept like the dead… to wake up at 7am and realize I had set my alarm for 6, but not until Wednesday. So now I have to do Balance tonight at some point. Joy.

Trying to keep that ultimate spirit up even through the challenge of work and balance tonight.

It was another sweatfest at my house last night.

The boyfriend was over, so I told him he had to do yoga with me. I’d been missing the strength class since I’ve been going to the studio on Wednesday’s (and I’m not as much of a rockstar as Sandy, who doesn’t count that toward her UY 108…), so I opted to do strength this week instead of detox.

With all the sweating I did though, I’m pretty sure it could count as a detox class.

I was mildly annoyed throughout the whole practice, since the boyfriend doesn’t regularly practice yoga, but he was effortlessly flowing through the practice… And was jumping back through chatturanga. Seriously!? No fair.

I decided it’s because he’s so much stronger than me, and does push ups for fun. SMH. I’m going to throw the balance class at him next time… See how he likes that! Psh.

That being said, it was a really great practice. My arms were DYING, like usual. I couldn’t hold them out the entire time in warrior & horse, I simply couldn’t FEEL them any longer TO hold them up. LOL

It was kind of fun getting to help him with some modifications, or tweaking his pose so that his alignment was better… maybe I DO have some “want” to teach…

Since the boyfriend was there, I also had him snap a pic of me in a pose, since normally I can’t get yoga photos. Unfortunately, the lighting wasn’t the best and he didn’t use the flash, so the quality isn’t the best… but here is me in bow pose!

I’m super excited to get home and do today’s practice! I’ll probably blog it when I’m done 🙂

Last night I was laying in bed, right before I fell asleep when I remembered that I had morning yoga at the studio today. That meant I had to get back up, pack a bag for the morning, and set my alarm for a little earlier.

I did. I even got up with the alarm and made it to yoga (though it was actually late and they were just waiting for me a couple mins after 6:15. I got stuck at the redlight at 6:14 and was like REALLY!?)

I’m so glad I got to have this morning practice. It was delightful. Hip openers galore, my favorite.A lengthy pigeon is exactly how I like to start my day.

My deltoids are sore. I could feel my arms wobbling each time I’d be exerting any arm strength. They’ve been working hard the past 38 days. Luckily, it shows so I’m not just miserably sore. Instead I’m all Yay! I’m sore because I’m getting MUSCLES! wooot!

So two wonderful ladies that I practice with at the studio have committed to 108 days too. All 3 of us have started it before and stopped for one reason or another. This time we’re in it for all 108 (well, that is the plan). I’ve continued with the 108 after my 30 days in April, Sandy decided to start “over” so that she’s in line with the facebook group doing round 3 of 108 along with Yariv. I’m not sure if Kath is continuing (she is our fearless leader, our yogamama, and has an amazing established home practice already) or if she has started at 1 with the group… but yea, one way or another we’re all going to do it!

We took a picture today after class…

Sandy, Kath, & Me. Here we go!

I’m so excited. I really hope I manage to stick with it, even if it’s just a short and sweet, or some suns, or something. I really want to make it all 108.

I’d love to hear from anyone else that is going to start the journey too (or any new journey, however long)!

If you couldn’t tell by my lack of posting… My weekend turned out to be hectic. I think I’m finally caught up on sleep from it.

Day 34:

On Saturday morning I woke up at 6am to get my practice in before we got on the road to Philadelphia for the zoo. It was gentle yoga and it was exactly what I needed before a 4ish hour car ride.

We spent the afternoon at the zoo and saw most of the animals. The kids were antsy and wanted to DO something, which was difficult because well…at the zoo you just LOOK at stuff. Not to mention, the kids have no understanding of money. No, we don’t need a $7 snack, we JUST ate before we got here! So, that was fun.

After the zoo we went to our hotel to check in. It looked to be pretty empty and the room was nothing fancy but fine for one night.

We opted to splurge and go to hibachi for dinner. It was amazing and delicious, and well worth the huge price tag. The kids enjoyed it, so for once in a great while… What the heck, why not?

Both me and the boyfriend were wiped out after driving/walking around in the sun all day so we just spent the evening in the hotel room. Unfortunately, I can’t say it was a relaxing, quality time type evening… Apparently there was a motorcycle “gang/crew” (i’m not sure what you really call them) staying at our hotel and they were rather LOUD until about 11pm… then were quiet (I’m thinking they went to a bar) until around 2am…. Then it was back to being loud until 3:45 or so… and when I say loud, I’m totally talking about BLASTING music from their SUV, revving the engines of their bikes, talking loudly, and even banging on OUR door. REALLY?!

I may or may not have yelled a few choice words when they banged on our door for about the 4th time, this time at 2:20am, waking me from a dead sleep. I was NOT a happy mama.

I was also not going to go and approach a huge group of bikers and say anything to them. So we “slept” and just hoped that the kids would stay asleep and not be afraid.

Day 35:

Sunday we decided to change our plan and head to the Jersey Coast to meet up with one of my friends from Highschool, who I haven’t seen in 5 years. We met at Point Pleasant Beach on the Jenkinson Boardwalk. It was overcast and windy for the first few hours so we let the kids play in the arcade while we visited and I got to love on the sweetest baby girl!

Little Miss just loved her!

After lunch the sun came out and it warmed up quite a bit. Still not really “beach weather” but warm enough that we got to enjoy the seaspray and sand on the beach without completely freezing. Some crazy teens were even in the water.

I kind of cheated on my yoga Sunday, it was supposed to be yin, so I did a few yin poses on the beach: pigeon, sphinx, goddess, and knee-down twists. With the sleepless night, travel, and craziness… I think that suffices.

We left the beach and the boyfriend still really wanted to go to Cabela’s, so we took a slightly longer route home so that we could make it back to Hamburg. Spent 2 hours in Cabela’s and the kids were more excited seeing the safari section of mounted animals than they had been the entire day at the zoo. “LOOK A RHINO, LOOK A TIGER, OOOHHH AN ELEPHANT!” >.< Yes, you saw LIVE ones yesterday! Sheesh. Next time we’ll just go to Cabela’s!

The Monster is also an expert on poaching, and kept informing me how it’s illegal to kill elephants and lions, etc. He was pretty disgusted that there was a photo of Dick Cabela and the elephant he got on his hunt. “WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO TAKE A PICTURE WITH THAT?! YOU SHOULDN’T EVEN WANT TO KILL AN ELEPHANT!” It was pretty cute.

Day 36:

So, we made it home safely and it was good to be back. Yesterday I completed 36 sun salutations after work, in my front yard while soaking up the sunshine. It was amazing to smell the grass when I’d flow through chatturanga to up-dog and feel the rays of sun hitting my skin. I just wish the ground were a little more flat.

I fell asleep at 8pm last night, before I even put the kids to sleep (oops). Apparently I was exhausted.

So here we are, day 37:

Since i had fell asleep early I hadn’t even set my alarm for the morning. I woke up at 6:30ish and didn’t have time for the full practice on today’s agenda, so I had to substitute with a Short & Sweet with Travis Eliot. I did the first one and it was fantastic. A great level of intensity and really got the full effect squeezed into the shortened time frame. I’m a big Travis Eliot fan.
